A patch of stinging nettles strimmed back to ground level in an East Kent garden, the area left open and safe

The brief: clear the wild patch before the grandkids arrive at the weekend.

A patch of stinging nettles that had been left to do its thing — waist-high, dense, spreading into the usable part of the garden. Not dangerous in itself, but exactly the kind of thing small legs don't need to run through.

What we did

Strimmer out, gloves on. The whole patch taken back to ground level, cuttings cleared and bagged, the area left as clear, flat ground. What was waist-high nettles is now open garden — safe to walk across and ready for whatever comes next, whether that's lawn seed, gravel, or just leaving it as rough ground.

Total cost: £25.

About nettles and overgrown corners

Nettles are a sign of nitrogen-rich soil — they tend to take hold in spots where organic matter has built up, undisturbed, for a few seasons. Cutting them back is straightforward, but they will regrow from the root if the area is left alone again. If you want to keep the area clear long-term, regular strimming through the growing season (or a ground-cover planting) is the practical answer.

For a one-off clearance to reclaim the space, we can have it done in a single visit.

One-off clearance jobs

Not every job on our list is a regular lawn cut. If there's a corner of your garden that needs bringing back under control — nettles, bramble, overgrown shrubs, or anything else that's taken over — get in touch. We do one-off clearance work alongside the regular mowing round, and we can usually quote on the spot after a quick look.
