Why scarify?

Let the grass breathe.

Over time a layer of thatch and moss builds up at the base of the lawn. It blocks water, air and feed from reaching the roots, and the grass thins out. Scarifying rakes it out so new growth can take hold.

  1. Scarify, a machine pass lifts moss and thatch from the surface.
  2. Aerate, hollow tines pull out cores to relieve compaction and improve drainage.
  3. Overseed, fresh seed fills thin and bare patches.
  4. Feed, a seasonal fertiliser gets the new grass going.
  5. Topdress, a light layer of soil levels the surface where needed.

When is the best time?

Early autumn is generally the sweet spot, provided the lawn is actively growing and the soil is moist but not waterlogged. After a long, hot summer we hold off aggressive scarifying on grass that is still drought-stressed, so your lawn is not set back.

Power access needed

Scarifying needs access to a power point. Our scarifier is mains electric, so we need to plug in at your property, within extension-lead reach of the lawn. If there is no outdoor socket, an indoor one through a door or window is fine.

Questions

Scarifying FAQs

How much does scarifying a lawn cost in Sandwich and Deal?

Scarifying starts from £75 for a small 25m² lawn and is around £135 for a typical 100m² lawn. A full restoration (scarify, aerate, overseed, feed and light topdressing) is from £170, around £325 for 100m². Use the calculator on this page for an instant estimate.

When is the best time to scarify a lawn?

Early autumn is generally the best time, provided the lawn is actively growing and the soil is moist but not waterlogged. Spring is the second-best window. After a long, hot summer we avoid aggressive scarifying on grass that is still drought-stressed.

What is the difference between Lawn Refresh, Recovery and Restoration?

Refresh is scarifying and tidying. Recovery adds overseeding and a seasonal feed. Restoration adds hollow-tine aeration and light topdressing where needed, and is the full treatment for tired, compacted or thin lawns.

Do you need access to a power point to scarify my lawn?

Yes. Scarifying needs access to a power point at your property, as our scarifier runs off mains electric. A socket within extension-lead reach of the lawn is all we need, outdoor or indoor.

What does the calculator price not include?

It is an indicative price for reasonable access with bagged waste left on site. Unusual access, heavily moss-infested lawns, extensive soil repairs and VAT where applicable are quoted separately. We always confirm the price before we start.
